After being banned due to the influence of Christianity, the traditional art of Tongan tattooing was lost for over 200 years. While most other Pacific Islands have experienced their own tattoo revivals, many Tongans still aren't aware that tattooing was once part of their rich cultural heritage. Beetleswamp Productions is working with Pacific Islanders in Communications to tell the story of Aisea Toetu'u and his quest to revive the Tatatau and use it as a means of reconnecting modern Tongan youth with their culture.
